By-and-by - Master of Fine Arts Installation

By-and-by draws from the relationship and embodied experience of a performative walking practice.

Initially Caroline Hollow hoped to complete the linear action of walking the Wellington section of the Te Araroa trail (from Island Bay to Otaki Forks) as a means of re-learning and grounding herself in a landscape identified as ‘home’, but the journey soon evolved in a considerably less linear way.

Encompassing experiences of learning and unlearning, wandering and wondering, she has arrived at a presentation of companion forms that collectively offer a non-linear articulation of subjective understandings of place.
